Day Camp Day 1

This morning I’m wondering how it can be both so easy and so hard to slide back into my old life. This week I’m back in South Dakota, doing day camp on the reservation. Yesterday was the kick off, and the “real thing” starts in about 2 hours. It was so much fun to get to see all of my little kids again, but it about broke my heart. I drove the town van and greeted each child as they got on. Two of our Sunday school girls got on and said “hi” as they climbed to the back. About 5 minutes later, they asked a question, and when I answered it Josie said “Oh my gosh, are you MISS CHAPLIN!” It was so funny. When we got to the baseball field, I was greeted by a LOT of kids. It was hard to see them and know that I’m leaving again so soon. One little boy came up and told me his name and said “I used to be in your class.” Did he think I forgot him that easily? I assured him that I didn’t forget him, and I knew his name. One of my youth group girls told me about getting in trouble at work, and when I told her she knew better she told me it was all my fault. That if I had stayed here, she would be “holier than thou” but since I left she couldn’t help it. Today should be interesting.
